This month is Samaritans awareness month! Every year in July Samaritans branches around the UK are holding various events to help raise awareness of the Samaritans and everything they do – with Samaritans Awareness Day falling on 24th July – helping to showcase that they are here to listen 24/7 to whoever needs it.
Mental health is a recurring topic of the month for us – as it is such a big subject to discover and raise awareness for. This month we’re going to talk about the Samaritans, and the great work they do to help support people all over the UK – with 24 hour services available to those that need it.
Some facts about The Samaritans:
- Samaritans has more than 200 branches and locations across the UK and Ireland
- During 2021, around 22,000 people volunteered their time for Samaritans
- Every 10 seconds, Samaritans responds to a call for help
Many of us struggle to cope at some point in our lives and sometimes just having someone to talk to can make a huge difference. The Samaritans hope to help whoever needs it by offering support 24/7, whether through phone call, email or in person at one of their branches.
Reaching out to someone you believe may be struggling could help them know that someone cares and help them to access the support they need. Below are some listening tips that the Samaritans have compiled to help you to give the best support you can to those around you:
